The Science & Principles
(This content is non-restrictive and gives just a few of so many examples)
The Spinal Flow Technique works to release these blockages stored within the Spinal Cord and Central Nervous System and, therefore, allowing for a clear pathway to healing and health.
The Spinal Flow Technique, developed by Dr Carli Axford, is rooted in Chiropractic principles and is based on the science of your body’s master control system:
- Brain
- Spinal Cord
- Nervous System
There is an innate intelligence inside every human being to grow, repair and heal ourselves. The Spine and Central Nervous System are the internal highway where this intelligence flows.
Over a life-time, we store stressors within the Spinal Cord that can interfere with the body’s natural healing processes and lead to pain and illness that prohibit a fully functioning body to be at its optimum state of living.
These stressors can cause blockages to occur which then have a knock on effect to the Central Nervous System (CNS), in turn causing dis-ease within the body. The types of stressors that can be stored within the Spinal Cord are:
- Physical – Posture, Birth Related Defects, Accidents or Falls, Child Baring, High Impact Sports
- Chemical – Food Intolerance, Illness, Drugs (Prescriptive & Non-Prescriptive), Alcohol, Environmental Toxins.
- Emotional – Childhood & Adulthood Trauma, Grief, Anxiety, Depression.
How is Spinal Flow Performed on a Client?
Spinal Flow is performed via a gentle touch, hands on procedure which uses “Access Points” located on the body. Access points are where the dura mater is closest to the surface of the body. These Access Points are based up and down the Spine. There are 33 in total, with the most richest being located at the Cranium, Occiput, Sacrum and Coccyx.
A practitioner will locate the access points which, in turn, allow the body to send a signal to the brain and generate a “spinal flow”, a natural movement in the spine, to release the stored stressors and blockages.

Does Spinal Flow hurt?
No, it does not hurt when having a session of Spinal Flow. Spinal Flow is a gentle touch, hands on procedure which has the most amazing benefits with no contraindications.
What can I expect from a session of Spinal Flow?
A typical session of Spinal Flow will include an initial assessment of your spine and “Gateways. This is predominantly done with a client lying face down and relaxed on the therapy bed. After the assessment, I will then move on to begin the Spinal Flow session. I will use a gentle touch on your spine, sacrum, coccyx and head.
During the Spinal Flow there will be music playing and we will not talk. This allows for a more connected and deep healing session.
During Spinal Flow, you may experience a range of symptoms from movement within the body, breath to come through, warmth up the spine, emotions to come up, tingling within the arms or legs, sleepiness, to name but a few. These symptoms are all completely normal and show you that your spine and central nervous system are working with the Spinal Flow to move towards finding the blockages.
Does not be disheartened if you do not get any of these symptoms as this does not mean your session hasn’t gone well. Some people have a feeling of complete relaxation, and that is just as amazing. Please bare in mind, each person responds differently to Spinal Flow and every session can be different for the same person.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions you receive of Spinal Flow depends on individual circumstances and expectations. Some people come for Spinal Flow for restorative and relaxation purposes, whilst others will come for more underlying conditions. Frequency of sessions can also depend on how much stress the body is holding. This will be assessed on your first session. The most effective way to feel in to Spinal Flow and its benefits, is to start with regular sessions to allow your body to get used to the sessions and expectations.
What should I wear to a session of Spinal Flow?
Spinal Flow is performed with the client fully clothed. Clients should wear comfy, loose fitting bottoms that allow for comfort during your session. It is advised not to wear items such as jeans or yoga pants as these can be restrictive to the sacrum & coccyx which could hinder your session.
